Hi vanagon listees!

We have just completed the installation of a Yakima rack on the rear hatch of our vanagon to carry our 3 bicycles... and wanted to share it with you.

It's not a conventional installation, and the bike shops didn't have the info in their books. We had seen an install of a Thule via the vanagon list (but it now 404's) and they had to bend the top bar. The Yakima tower turns, and doesn't require bending. Way cool.

We did cut the top bar a few inches so it didn't stick out any further than it needed to past the tower with a sawzall.

It was a very clean installation, is very strong, and still allows visibility out the rear window.

Pictures and descriptions are available of the installation at: http://www.earthnow.org/westy/

Part information is: Yakima http://www.yakima.com Raingutter Towers: http://www.yakima.com/products/dynamic/8000101_7.html Copper Head Rails: http://www.yakima.com/products/dynamic/8002064_1.html Boa Center Support: http://www.yakima.com/products/dynamic/8002065_1.html

We've used it a few times now... and have about 8hours of driving on it. It's staying tight, and is working excellent... and now we can carry all our bikes!

Have a great summer listees!
