Max I have an 89 that does the same thing I even went so far as to have the speedo sent out for a tune up and it still same problem. the new speed I installed while the original unit was getting serviced did not need slapping. this van had a rust hole that sprayed water on the dash and I blamed that for the problem. got the hole fixed but not the speedo
