Tonight I changed the intake gasket on both side. To do so, I disconnected the plug wires. Those wires are about a year old. The rubber insert in the metal shiel on the plug side was sort of welded on the plug. On cylinder # 1 it separated very close to the connection with the plug. I removed that rubber insert, plug the wire back and TA DAM : misfire. That's bad since the engine was running quite correct before the gasket job. Question : Could the missing rubber insert in the metal shielded end of the wire cause the misfire ? I've checked the overall rsistance of the wire and it is within the specs Bentley talks about (6000 ohms +/- 1400). Mine has 4600 ohms. If not what the hell has happened ? Thanks for the answers, I just don't want to spend $ 100 if it is not the problem ! Ignace 1985 Vanagon 1,9 L |
