Folks, Recently installed a new pair of OE side mirrors on my 85. Although I snugged them down pretty good, the first Highway gust pinned their ears back but good. No problem .... I have followed the Mirror threads ....... take them apart, scuff, sand, gouge and a general roughing up of various interfacing parts will do the trick .... NOT. Back go the ears again. The wheels inside the noggin begin turning, never a pretty sight and always a dangerous end result. Something sticky applied to those same surfaces is what the situation needs, me thinks. Sugar water, Pepsi, Glue? An experiment ..... one mirrors innards get a light coating of RTV .... sticky, not hard. The other gets its innards stuck on a piece of Duct Tape and rubbed around on the glue. And the winner is ..... based on onesdays' commute, back and forth, with a stiff head wind ...... DUCT TAPE. Yes Friend and Foe ..... once again the miracle of Duck Tape comes to the rescue. I kid you not. Larry Chase 85 Westy "RoadHaus" CA soon to be AZ |
