I've never seen a rolled Vanagon, but while Westfaliaizing my Transporter/Vanagon I had to cut a hole in the roof of course. In the process, got a good look at the roof structure. Just fore and aft of the 4 foot square hole we cut were v. substantial crossmembers. These are welded to the structure which doubles as a A/C conduit and a wiring conduit. If you have a close look at it, you'll see that it is a large and very heavy gauge triangular tube that that runs the length of the van. Similar structures front and back. Result is that there is hoop around the van at roof level with two very stout lateral stiffeners.Door posts are pretty impressive too. I would expect that the vehicle would come out of a roll pretty well. Occupants must avoid being thrown around inside to avoid serious damage to themselves.
