My mirrors continually folded inward and I eventually overtigntned the nut. I ended up pulling out the metal insert from the plastic housing.

It was easily solved by using a small hammer to dive the metal shaft back inside the plastic housing and drilling a hole thru the plastic and shaft. I then inserted a pin thru the plastic and shaft and haven't had a problem in many years.
