Subject: 1.9 vs 2.1 - technical differences.

I was talking to a guy this morning to purchase a 68 Bus and after a wile I could see that the amount of body work was to much (not the rust but the kink, bump...) Anyway, this guy as a functional 1.9 (84) engine for sale for $300 CAD ($190 USD) including the ECU, harness and exhaust system. So I said to the guy, what a bout the trany, he reply; not at $300 for sure. Maybe $400 or $500 with the trany!! I will buy this engine, for fun and/or learning. I also think that the injection system is on it. What I need to know is: which parts are compatible with my 2.1L.

By Bentley I don't have much to go on, and yes I could call my dealer to check for part # but I think that you guys are a better reference.

EX: the ECU, Trany, engine core, Crankshaft.

There is many possibility for that price; first, for educative purposes. So I could built a full section (web site) on the engine core (crank, rods and so on), second would be to rebuilt the engine and sell it, third would be to sell the engine as it is to you guys for the same price I paid (damn I am a nice guy). (After a full disassembling of this one, of course!) If nothing is compatible with my 2.1, tell me if any of you would need parts. I will go see this engine tonight or Monday night. Of what I know for now is it is an 84 Vanagon (not camper).

I need from you VW guru to tell me all compatible parts.

By Bentley I think that the trany is the same (pretty sure it's a 4 speed, not auto) What about the ECU, it must be slightly different (Digifan / Digijet) The engine core: There is some difference for sure, what are they (apart of the oil sender)

I don't have much to go for now (I didn't see the engine) but at this price only the starter, alternator, fuel pump, injector are worth the price.

What are your thoughts? I live in the Montreal area (Quebec), if any of you guys are close enough, you could pick up stuff at my home.

I don't intend to make money at all (not for now!!! He he he), so if a few of you guys are in need of cheap parts!!! Let me know.

Like always, Just trying to help :)

Regards, Ben http://www3.sympatico.ca/huotx/engine1.htm

Ps.: Also, 2 x functional 2.1L use engine are available at use part dealer in my corner of the world, they go for around 500 to 1000 CAD, core only with leaking heads.
