I'd like to thank Dennis Haynes, Stan Wilder & Sean B. who helped to correctly identified this item for me. My Vanagon does indeed have cruise control. This component originally mounted on top of the trans before I started the work. I assume that it is supposed to confirm or hold the position of the throttle linkage or shifter arm position? Can [anyone] enlighten me as to where it mounts exactly? And how it operates? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks, Mike
