Subject: SYNCRO DRIVE SHAFT SEAL

Ok list,

The driveshaft seal on my 87 Syncro is leaking. (Note, the driveshaft on the front of the tranny, not the axel flance seals on the sides).

Bently shows how to remove the thing, but has no picture of it. Not that it matters. The ETKA that I have is the European version, and shows part number 094 311 113, but that is for the type2 syncro, and looks like it may be a driveshaft de-coupler type unit. Don't know if that is the same seal for sure.

The nice lady at the local VW dealer is telling me that the part number is 113 311 113A. She can't find the 094 number, (coresponding to the 094 transmission right?) The 113 part number is for the INPUT seal for the transmission, and according to one online vendor database, that seal is common to Vanagon, Beetle, Thing, etc. Is the input shaft seal and the output shaft seal the same?

TIA, John Cooper, '87 Syncro Westfalia

.
