Lukas,

You did not specify what vintage of the used AC you are purchasing. Since mention ductwork, I am going to assume you mean the ones with a large duct coming down the center of the van lie in the 86 and later non-Westy models. That is all it is. Ductwork. You can certainly reroute that as you please. The problem you may encounter w/ regards to cooling effect IIRC is there are no blowers in the front panel at all. The controls are there but all the fans are in that rear housing. In that situation, taking out the center ducts will result in cooling similar to the rear only AC in the Westies. Judging from the postings on this subject in the archives, the Westy rear AC is less than desirable. One particular handy-Andy Westy owner even made up some removable ductwork to bring the cool air to the front by use of PVC pipe. (My apologies as I cannot remember the name of listee who did this.) When it was time to camp, IIRC he would just remove the ductwork to get it out of the way of the poptop. Of course if you are adding this to a bus and not a Westy, you would not have this problem. I do not recall if you said whether you are adding this to a bus or a Westy.
