Below. bmc :) "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel...."

Is it too much to > ask to find good owners who are parting with their vans?

--I think it just takes a lot of patience. I looked (literally) all over the country for my 90, including flights to other states, etc. When I finally was about to give up for a while, my westy popped up 4 miles from my house. I rode my bike to pick it up. They are rare, yes, but they are out there.

> One thing I like to consider is this: is low mileage really such a good > thing? When I bought the 84 it had 75, 000 mi. I bet the PO's let it

--My 90 had about 201,000 on it when I bought it. It also had complete records from day one, and had been professionally maintained by a cool German guy in Ukiah, CA. I definitely didn't plan to buy a van with those kind of miles, but I would be willing to bet it's in better condition that a lot of vans with 100,000 on them. I have traveled 20,000 miles in it this year already, and have yet to be let down a single time (other than a clutch master cylinder, which was no big deal). I believe condition is much more important than mileage. After you get past the idea that you have/are buying a high mileage vehicle, who cares? If it still does what it's supposed to, it doesn't matter. And you can usually get much better deals on high-mileage vans anyway.

My $.02 bmc :)
