Bummer!

I hate to admit it but back in the 70's a trusting friend loaned me his VW
van. Not paying attention on a freeway on ramp and trusting the driver ahead
of me to merge I glanced away for a moment. Of course the driver up front
stopped to look at traffic and I plowed into him and crushed the front of my
friends van. That cost me about $1500 which I willingly paid to my friend
who was like a saint about it. I don't think he ever fixed the front but the
money made him feel OK. Back then $1500 was about $4500 in today's money.
Since then I never trust people in front to merge properly and leave lots of
room up front for maneuvering around dumb drivers and my stupidity.
