I've been working on my rear brakes, and so far it has not been a difficult job. One tip: I noticed that the greatest wear point on the shoes (the top) is nowhere near the inspection hole. So if you are using the inspection hole to determine the life of your brakes, keep in mind that is one of the slower to wear places. My question: Is there an easy way to determine if your rear drum is worn past the wear limit? I don't have a micrometer on hand. I'm trying to figure out if I will be better off having the old drums turned or just getting new drums. Is it a good idea to replace the star adjuster wheel while I have everything apart? They look okay, but a little worn on the self adjuster part. Todd '88 Westy |
