Gotta love that one! I remember toe-straps too. I had the Yakima 'artificial rain gutters' and rack on my Westy poptop when I bought the van so the damage had been done, and while I'm taller than most, mounting bikes on the top of a Westy puts them into the stratosphere. Mounting the rack behind the Vanagon makes the most sense for reasons that Pensioner described. I was also admiring this setup on this site though: http://www.earthnow.org Has anyone else used this setup with success? I now have a non-Westy Wolfy, so I was considering mounting the top bar to the rain gutter at the roof line for added security.
