Subject: Q: swap 83 and 84 cab seatbelts?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Anyone know any reason why cab seatblets from an 84 wouldn't fit and work in the cab of an 83 Westy? Both are for the Westy with swivel seat meaning the press buckle mounting shaft is a bit shorted than for the non-Westy. It seems VW changed the seatbelts in the Vanagon sometime in 84.

I have all new 84 assemblies including the belt with the retracting coil and the press buckle etc. from VW. Rennie From Peyton Cramer VW in Torrance,CA hooked me up with a great price.

Visual inspection shows the belt on the 83 has the older style seatbelt with the rounded off chrome insert that goes into the press buckle. The 83 also has the belt release button on the side of the press buckle with the word "PRESS" printed on it.

The 84 seatbelt set up has the squared off chrome insert for the press buckle and that insert also has the square hole in the center. The press buckle has the release button on the top of the press buckle.

It looks like the swap is pretty straight forward. And I do have the entire new assembly including belts and press buckles.

TIA Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
