Debra, A great fix for any fabric is stuff called "Seam Grip". It is a liquid rubber that makes an awesome bond on anything, and tries tough and flexible. I've used it on tents, clothes, backpacking gear, about everything. It is sold at outdoor shops, like REI or local stores. Works on tons of stuff. Put a piece of tape on the back of the rip, then apply the stuff, overlapping the tear by 1/4". It's a lot like Goop or Shoe Goo. Make sure you put talcum power on it when you are finished, to make sure it doesn't self-adhere when you fold it. This stuff is fantastic.
