Subject: Hawai'ian delivery charge...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"

Are there any list members in Hawai'i? I'm wondering about the $2995 delivery charge that appears to be included in the price of every new VW here (and probably other brands as well, but I haven't bothered to check on those for some reason). Is there any way around the charge? I heard that if I buy a new vehicle on the mainland and then ship it to Hawai'i (roughly $800 for shipping) that Hawai'i will still hit me with that $3K charge.

There's just an incredible number of Vanagons here.

In Houston, I may go an entire day without seeing another Vanagon. Here (I'm in Kailua at the moment), I see a Vanagon every five to ten minutes.

I dropped in on the local dealer on Saturday to ask what was up with Vanagons but I got the wrong sales-weasel, someone who had only been here a month and started at that dealer last week. He clearly knew nothing about VWs (but hey - why should that stop him from selling them?).

If there aren't any list members here, there need to be - how to advertise the existence of the list to those outside of it? Find the local VW club and put up a little sign? I passed the local air-cooled club yesterday as they caravaned through town - a 67 Bus followed by five Meyers Manxes and then about fifteen air-cooled Beetles in various stages of restoration or customization.
