Subject: Subaru 2.2L / WBX HP and Torque Graph Compared
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

For anyone interested:

Finally the illusive HP and torque graphs for the 90-94 Subaru 2.2L engine have been found .......in a very interesting technical paper written by Subaru engineers. (Page 15)

http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/files/SAE_boxer.pdf

I have converted the data from Metric to US numbers and attempted to overlay the data over similar data for the 2.1L WBX which was also obtained from a VW factory tech manual.

The original and converted graphs can be viewed at the link below:

These graphs confirm the driving experience that I have with my own conversion of a 2.2L into a 90 Syncro Westy. My experience is of higher torque than my former WBX at lower rpms (and throughout the rev range).....but the HUGE improvement really comes at RPMs over 4000, where the WBX dies and the Subaru just keeps going and going up to 6500 rpm.

DISCLAIMER: These graphs are my best efforts to convert information from sources believed to be reliable, i.e. technical papers published by the manufacturers.

My attempts to convert pictures to numbers and then put the numbers into Excel and then have Excel chart them may result in some slight errors, but the graphs are probably accurate enough to make a generalized comparisons. .

FWIW. No flames please
