Both the GL and non-GL version of the 1987 camper have the same GVWR - 5,160 lbs, the non-GL has 3-400 lbs less of stuff built in, so that will give you that much more capacity. According to my registration, the empty weight of my camper is 3,115 lbs.

The non-GL camper has more room inside and can be used for really large loads when you remove the jump seat and the fridge (think forklifting pallets inside). Plus it seats 5 comfortably, 6 with belts, 7 if someone sits on the fridge.

I just returned from a 3000+ mile trip in my camper with 4 adults, 1 eight year old, and all of their junk. I averaged 19 mpg and never downshifted into 3rd on 5 & 6% grades I climbed. The speed dropped to 55 mph but held there for the duration of the climbs.

Anyone have the DATA?

87+ Westy full camper weight=?

87+ Westy weekender weight=?

Are full campers worth the extra WEIGHT or do you use your own portable stove?

Does the weekender have more ROOM for junk?

I know these things are dogs in stock form so less weight equals more power to defy gravity. Besides I have a crapload of climbing and biking gear to tote around.

Still shopping... Rich Blake Oak Harbor, WA
