Hey Debra,

I was there last night also in my '69 Pop-Top (left the 81 at home). How did you like the show? We were talking awhile ago about getting together "en-masse" at a Padre's game. Instead of trying to plan a particular day (which would be fun also), why don't we pick a spot (letter) where we park whenever we go to a game. That way we always bump into each other. Last night we were in B2 all the way at the back by the trees. It was really a nice spot.

I didn't see the Starbucks van (or yours), but in answer to your canvas problem, if the canvas ripped because it was dry rotted, you probably can't fix it very securely. If that is the case, some duct or packing tape is probably your best bet. If the canvas is just ripped in one spot, or the stiching just pulled away from the zipper backing, an upholstery shop should be able to fix it fairly cheaply. Here in San Diego there are hundreds that do a great job. The closer you get to the border, the better.

Good Luck,

Ward

(still a Padre's fan)

While tail-gating at Qualcomm stadium last night before the Padres game (don't ask!) and the Sky show (fireworks) to follow, I popped the top and when I attempted to unzip the screen the pulling action ripped the canvas just above. Having already spent a lot on our relatively, newly acquired Vanagon, are there any recommendations for repairing the canvas to get me through this summer? I checked the archives and there were only mentions of screen repairs. Also, what to use to make the zipper open more easily and smoother. (Anyone try beeswax from a fabric store?)\

We had a great time last night and everyone loved our Vanagon. "Starbucks" coffee was there giving away free samples all night out of a Eurovan w/ pop-top. The crew said they loved it. (The Eurovan) It had a cool paint job.
