That metal piece is the resistor for the blower motor. The resistors are used to provide the different fan speeds. The shorted motor is the reason the resistor overheated.

Hello All -

I need some help fixing my AC in my 84 Westy. Major components (compressor, etc.) are good. I'm having problems with the blower motor and its housing from the cabinet above rear seat. I pulled the blower motor so I could get part number and make sure there wasn't anything wrong with the wiring or something else. Well, the blower motor definitely has an internal short (blows fuse above 1st fan speed), but there is also another problem.

There is this metal piece (thermostat piece??) in the plastic blower housing that has four yellow wires connected to it. On the other side there are three spring-like pieces. One looks like it experienced a melt down. Check out the link below for more information and some pictures.

So, assuming that I need the blower motor and this other part, where can I get them (not busdepot or vanagin)? Does anyone have the parts to sell? What is the name of that metal piece?

Thanks, Derek
