Turn off the gas valve on the fridge until the flame-detector light goes out. After it goes out, turn the valve on again, leave it for a few hours and then come back and smell for propane at the flue vent. But you won't smell any, these gas safety valves are *extremely* safe and reliable. There's one on every gas water heater, gas furnace, gas oven in the continent, and they work very well.

Perfectly normal. Notice the smell carefully -- that's the smell of burning propane. Leaking propane has much sharper odor that persists for a long time.
