Hmmm... If I understand the sound I believe you are attempting to describe, let me say that I am experiencing the same thing with my 85... when simultaneously going down hill, braking, and turning right. My brother (who knows about these things) suspects a failing ball joint. First things first, though.. head gasket repair is in progress.
