To add to the information/confusion on weights, I had my '86 Westy Weekender (before Subaru motor install) weighed at an official California weigh station when I first bought it as a part of the process of getting commercial license plates. (These plates are invaluable around crowded commercial areas because there are always lots of commercial spaces reserved for tradesmen, etc., and they are rarely all filled though all of the spaces for regular cars almost always are.) The vanagon weighed 3980 lbs. I had nothing in the car except a half a tank of gas. Tom LaLanne
