Jeff,

Why do you feel you need to tell DEQ that you have installed a different type of engine in your Vanagon? I live in Milwaukie, OR and have found that in the last couple years they don't much care what you are driving as long as it passes the emissions test. The method they use now is a dynamic "rolling road" that has nothing to do with your engine RPM (hence no attachment of a tach sensor to a spark plug cable). They drive your vehicle onto the rollers, stick a sensor up the tailpipe, and check the readings under acceleration up to about 35 MPH. It passes or it doesn't.

The last two times I went through in a Vanagon they had absolutely no idea what kind of engine was in it.

I have a Tiico engine sitting in my garage right now and will be installing it as soon as I get my Vanagon back from the paint shop. I'm not telling DEQ "nuthin'".

Don't know if this helps but someone's got to be the "last outlaw".
