These trannys are different in several ways. They are not bolt-in interchangeable. Different nose mounts and the shift linkage is way different.

Gearing is likely different too but more info is needed to determine this. All VW Vanagon trannys have a 2 or 3 letter code on the bottom side along with some numbers. These letters tell the model, original gearing, and bell housing style while the numbers tell when it was made.

It is possible to use a 091 tranny in a 091/1 Vanagon application but the linkage difference is a serious problem. Specially made parts are needed.
