I'm all for improving the subject lines- that's what all of the other REAL lists do that I'm on and it makes it much easier. This is such a (wonderfully) diverse subject that should remain just that, but it does need a little more order. It would not be hard to break posts down into [tiico] anything to do with that engine specifically [repair] "how do I.." type postings [forsale] parts/vans for sale [info] general questions/statements about vanagons [nvc] or [friday] for bulk of the blather

and so on.... there should only be few enough for people memorize easily- like 6-10 at the most. There will, of course, be crossover topics or topics that don't fit neatly into a category. and they could just leave out a category. If it develops a thread with a specific topic, someone can take the initiative to add a category in their reply... this is all just off the top of my head- I'm sure that someone has some better ideas...

The list of categories could be listed in a footer along with the subscribe/unsubscribe/set nomail info that is needed on a daily basis....

I'm sure we can do it....
