I finally reinstalled the drive shafts in my '90 today. The one on the left side is what I would call "normal" - the shaft moves longitudinally between the CV joints. The one installed on the right does not. The CV joints accommodate the angle between the wheel and transaxle, but the shaft does not slip on the splines.
