They call this cross-cultural enrichment.  Try selling that to her, and
see how it goes.

This had better not offend anybody, especially my wife, who is from the
Ozark mountains of Missouri, but  wears shoes now pretty much of the
time, except in summer, or in the house, but always in church.

Sandals are not shoes.
