>I am looking for some info on repairing the 3rd-4th gear syncro hub on a 86 rwd. transmission.

>I believe that it is the all to common 3rd-4th gear syncro hub. >Has anyone done this repair them selves?

Yes, I've done a couple 2wd and syncros in my home shop.

>If so how difficult was the repair?

Not so bad, if you can rebuild a WBX, you can certainly do a transmission.

>Where can I buy the parts for the repair?

Weddle or Long have all the parts in stock. I bought from Weddle, at the time it was a little cheaper.

>At one time there was a list member that had pictures of the repair on his web site. >Does anyone know the URL for this site ?

>Any advice and info on the repair is greatly appreciated.

I made all the special tools and pullers myself. If I had to do it again, I would just buy one special tools. Can't remember what it's called, but it is about $80 from weddle. You will need a small hydraulic press. If you have a syncro, think about changing 4th gear ratio as well. The first time took about 2 - 8 hours days labor, not including R and R of the transmission.

I don't think there is anybody in Alberta anymore who will work on a syncro or even a 2wd vanagon transmission. So you don't have much choice except to do it yourself, shipping it to the states gets expensive.

Do it yourself if you have the time, transmissions are not as hard as what has been suggested.
