Not that I'm an expert, but ...

A couple of years ago I had a couple of estimates done to repaint parts of another van I had ... sand some rust off the sliding door, touch-ups here and there. One place gave me a $6000 quote, another, $2000 (both in CAD).

I was surprised at the difference to say the least. When I mentioned this to the fellow who ended up buying my other car, he said I had to watch out for the quality of paint used. Like I said, I'm no expert, but this may be a factor in some of the cheaper work done by body shops.
