I hear ya, brother. I reaallly want a syncro Westy, but I don't think I've got the disposable income to tackle the 4wd system AND assorted wasserboxer headaches. I really am quite satisfied with the 2.0 airhead in my '81. It gets decent gas mileage (even with the Weber conversion), keeps up with traffic around town and will cruise at 75-80mph all day... as long as there's not much of a headwind or any big hills. And even if it required an overhaul every 40k (which they don't if you treat'em right), I'd much rather tackle an airhead than a wasserleaker. JMTC-

JJ
