Now I am not sure on this gift thing--

But customs is the place where the package enter's the country, and a
declaired value is established---and charged--
Any time I have sent stuff to Canada, I have fibbed a bit and on the
decloration sheet ( which is required ) and claimed I am sending
something of a lesser value, so the guy on the other end doesn't get
jabbed too bad--

Case in point--I sold a guy  pair of type 2 1800 heads--I claimed they
were used taxi parts---and established a value of $50.00, to the tax
wouldn't kill the guy above and beyond the original price---

From waht I gather the Canadians do pay a tax on incoming stuff---

The Brokerage thing I don't understand at all-----

I've been following this thread with some interest and a little of my
own ignorance on the subject.
I sent a $700 computer mnitor to my sister in Canada as a GIFT which I
thougth was not a customs issue. "Customs" charged her 25% of the value
that they determined it was worth.
Are these "customs agents" the brokers of whom you speak?
I thought a gift was not taxable or custom fee-able. What happens at
Christmas time?
Does anyone know for sure if a customas fee can be charged for a gift?
