Subject: Let's give Tom C a break . . . .
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Ok, I've got to chip in my 2 cents worth on a variety of subjects I have watched pass without my commenting over the last few weeks. Maybe I'm presuming too much, but to most of us the list is used for informational purposes to keep our vans running. Acknowledged that FryDAY is anything goes day, but for the most part I think most of us don't want to read messages by a few people emailing what should be P-MAIL (private email) to the list. Plus, I'm starting to see people take offense to emails and then clog up the list with their complaints. I was on the 2400 Fulton St. (Jefferson Airplane/Starship/Tuna) list about 6 years ago and it was destroyed by bickering and infighting by people who had no tolerance. This is the Vanagon list, administered by Tom C, who really does not need all these problems - he does it as a service. Sometimes I think he's forced to be a babysitter of a few hundred people who are supposedly adults. If it is NOT VANAGON RELATED and NOT ON SUBJECT then please think of P-mailing. We've got another thread going where somebody is insulted by what somebody else said and both feel the need to reply to the list, not each other. Tom already had to suspend somebody over their inciting remarks - and not just a one-time deal. Surprised he put up with it so long. And also put up with all the non-vanagon related complaints. BUT, part of FREEDOM means allowing others to speak their mind, even if you don't agree with it. You don't need to email the list saying you don't like what somebody else says. This isn't your list - it's Tom C's. Some famous American said something like "I'll fight to the death to allow you to speak things I disagree with" or something like that. I'm sure Tom C does not want to babysit us "Adults." Other list etiquette is to trim replies and not to use MIME. It bloats the digest and server space Tom C. supplies for us. Remember, when you post you have about 500 people reading what you say. (yikes I just scared myself - remembering some posts I made after a few too many beers!) PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE respond to me via P-MAIL if you have anything to say. Let's get the list back on track (VANAGON LIST) and make Tom C's life easy . . . for a while, anyway? Please?
