The curious thing about the value of a Vanagon:

The prices people pay for westy's are highly variable. Last year the local VW dealer here in town sold an 87 w/ 80K miles for $15,000. Last night I met a guy that bought an 87 Westy with 90K on the clock for $1500 from the original owner in Oregon (everything worked). I see late 80's Westy's for sale from time to time in my local want ad's for under $3,000. The point is that the people who know about the vanagon list, BD, and all of this stuff are VW enthusiasts and are willing to pay a LOT more for a 17 year old vehicle than the average joe. Of course your chances of buying from someone who really knows how to take care of a vanagon are increased by buying from an enthusiast.

just my 2 cents, Andrew Fox 86' Westy
