There are two common problems, usually one or the other, but not both at the same time:

One, the pot-metal gear to the right of the tenths dial loosens on the shaft. This can be cured by carefully disassembling the speedo face, pulling the pin with plastic gear intact whilst pushing through the other side with a metal rod, screwdriver, or whatever of the same diameter, then using nipper pliers to make very slight indentations on the shaft end where it fits through the metal gear, then reassembling using a small drift punch to carefully tap the shaft into the gear.

The second is cracking of the plastic gear, rendering it loose on the shaft. These, I repair by carefully machining little collars to clamp over the shoulder of both sides of the plastic gear.

If anyone is afraid to attempt repair of these problems, I can repair them for you in a 24-hour turnaround usually, for $20. P-mail me if you need one done.
