Andy,

We have the same problem on ours. So far we haven't fixed the problem we just have a small bungee cord that we hook on the mechanism right above the button and loop it around the button and back up. Works like a charm and when we don't want to leave it unlocked we move the bungee. We just bought the westy so we really haven't had a chance to fix it properly.
