Leave the pulley in place. All that service can be done with the pulley there.

I have a 1983.5 westy with a 3 groove pulley. As many of you know, I am in the process of removing my cylinder heads to resolve a problem with billowing white smoke from the exhaust. I've got the passenger side off. It looks like I have to remove the crank pulley to get the water pump off and the driver's cylinder head off. How do I get this pulley off?

With a 30mm socket? How do I prevent the engine from turning when I turn the socket.

Should I even try? I can probably remove the metal piece that connects to the water pump to avoid taking off the water pump. But since I'm this deep into the engine, I thought I would take off the pump too.
