Sam, for the Westy interior Light the fridge from the propane. Ask him if it is cool. Check the sink pump, make sure it runs. Look at the sink drain. Check for leaks that might have caused rust. Dual batteries are nice, but not standard. If he put an inverter in, that would be cool. Check poptop seals and canvas for tears.

Van Check the CV joints. Check for head gasket leaks (like mine was leaking and my engine is now in pieces). Vanagons are fuel injected and the hoses rot. But the fuel lines are easy to replace. Check the coolant rubber as the pieces are expensive. Look all over for bits of coolant leaks. Start it up and let it idle for 15 minutes and watch the temp gauge. Make sure the radiator fan kicks in (my switch was broken).
