Subject: anyone tried an Evaporative cooler?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

This is the DualKool and TriKool evaporative cooler page at RealGoods (I liked it better when Jade Mountain was on its own, but they merged back in with RG again....)

Anyone tried one of these in a van? I understand they work better in dry hot climates than in humid (and I live in a dry climate)...I remember having an evaporative ac unit in Portland, OR at a workplace, and it helped, but that was in a regular room. I almost ordered one last year, but where I was heading (off-grid/no plug-ins) I would only have been able to use it while the van was running. But that ain't always an option to sniff at, I'm thinking, so maybe I want one of these.

(Also, the RealGoods DC food coolers page is at http://www.realgoods.com/renew/shop/list.cfm?dp=3100&sd=3101 if that's of use to anyone)

Now all I need is a solar panel-- one of those marine dealies that can be walked on or rolled up and stored-- on the top of the van and a portable rechargeable power pack under the bed...ah, yes...when I am made Benevolent Dictaoress of a Small Island Nation, I shall ask for all these items as tribute.

Perhaps the early summer sun is getting to me already. ;-)
