I was able to replace a lower balljoint for fellow listmember Rick K.

He brought over the spindle; and it took an assortment of arbor plates, and old shaft and some pipe stock to R&R the joint. The spindle is such an awkward shape that it was tricky to press against. The press I have at home is a 20-ton unit, and it was feeling the strain!

DO NOT press against the end of the shaft! Get a galvanized pipe coupler (2" ?) or short length of pipe from Home Depot to put over the joint...this pipe should put the force of the press on the outer rim of the joint.

If you are anywhere near Silver Spring, MD...stop on by! Or if you are not in a rush, ship me the spindle and the new joint and I will press it in for free.
