Subject: IDLE problem

Hi all,

I just got a westfalia (87 vanagon GL) it is in good shape but it has a few minor problems. One of them is the RPM at idle; it is running too fast (2000 rpm). One of my friend told me that it is either the Idle Control Valve or the Idle control Unit (I don't even know where is located the later one). I had a look at the valve itself and it seems always open when the wires are connected. The valve closes completely as soon as I disconnect the wires. It seems that there is not middle position. Anybody has a hint so I could do a better diagnosis? Where is located the control unit? I guess I will have to get a book.

Joel Westfalia 87
