I hadn't been to that dealer in 6 months , and could hardly find it as the old buildings were gone and they are in a new building( Auburn, WA). I asked it differently three times and always the guy came up with the same answer- VW won't give him the code without the VIN. None of the older employees I knew were there. And even if they had been, the VW website wouldn't let them retrieve the code- the VIN is like the password -without it, you get a no-can-do message. Hello - Beginning around three months ago Volkswagen now requires the VIN number as well as the numbers on a coded VW radio if you want to get the code from them. So , beware of buying a radio without a code. You won't be able to get the code and the radio will only be good for parts. Sorry Alpineimports- If you have the VIN number from the original car the radio came from I can get the code for you.
