Before I purchased my latest Vanagon Westy, I took my "love partner" on a
camping vacation to the Pacific Northwest. We rented a '82 full Westy from
Northwest Campers in Bellingham WA and spent 10 fantastic days driving and
camping on Widbey Island, Olympic Peninsula, Lake Crescent, Rialto Beach,
Hoh Rain Forest, etc.
After the usual Vanagon acclimation period, (her figuring out how to get in
and out the front seat gracefully) she began asking me if I thought we could
buy one of our own.
My response: "Well, I guess I could try to find one.... somewhere."
She's addicted now. We even camped out in the Berkshires last January
during a snow storm. I woke up at 4 AM freezing my ass off but she never
stirred. I had the heater on and coffee ready when she got up. Better than
life at home!

Just brought my first Vanagon home and the wife hates it, and
I mean really hates it. She refuses to ride in it. So
unfortunately it has to go. Before I list it on ebay and in
the local paper I thought I should list it here since you all
talked me into one and it should go to someone who will
appreciate it more them my wife. I thought maybe I should
sell the wife but I reconsidered.
I'm new to these Vanagons so you are welcome to come and
check it out anytime because I don't want an unhappy buyer. I
will send pics to any interested folks. Here are the details:
*This is NOT a mint Vanagon; it's my first decent driver
Vanagon that fit in my budget. I got lucky with it being a
91. I figured I'd have to get an early model for under $3000.
But it's a good well-used late model Vanagon and I only had
to go $500 over my budget.
1991 GL
Blue with gray interior and gray lower trim pieces and
bumpers.
Rear seat folds down, but there is no cushion
171,000 miles
Stock 5 spoke alloy wheels
Power windows (needs regulator installed, included)
A/C but blows warm (will have it checked before sale)
I've been driving it and it runs great, plenty of power and
starts right up, no smoke. Can be driven home easily.
Inspected till Nov
New front breaks and rotors just redone.
I was told the head gasket and motor are in great shape (I
will give you the garage's number I bought it from for
verification)
Rear corner of bumper was hit (busted up pretty good) and may
be fixable.
Lower rear wheel well skirts have been banged up a bit (new
ones are included so you or your body shop can swap them out)
Some minor dings and dents here and there, but not to bad and
very repairable.
Interior is in good shape, a couple of tears in the back of
the middle seats and 2 tiny round holes in the front seats.
A little dirty, but I am having it cleaned over the next few
days.
Looking to get my money back so $3500.00 is my price.
Not sure what else might be of interest or what I may be
leaving out, so please if you need more info ask or call me
anytime.
