Just to throw in another perspective, community based sites like http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu/ would probably take care of the point made earlier that feedback and criticism can overwhelm even the most dedicated webmaster very fast (I know from experience!!). Instead of using an entirely different domain name, the site could be located on a different machine (I can even offer space and admin services, albeit on a slow upload DSL line only) but under a domain name like community.vanagon.com . just 2 Pfennige... oopps, it's cents now as well back home :)) h.
