I think you should grab a meter and check the current drain on the battery when the key is off. A proper radio will use just a few milliamps to maintain the settings, like the digital clock, but that would not drain your battery.

Once you have measured the system drain, run a wire from the battery and power only the radio in the off position. If the measurements match, the radio has a problem, but I would bet they don't, and that you will find there is something else on that circuit.

Then the fun begins. Let us know what you find.
