I believe OEM tires were either 185's or 205's depending on options. Recommended pressure on my '86 Syncro is 36 front 40psi rear...on 205/70R14 tires, which is why it's important to have the reinforced tires such as the Michelin MXT's. On the 185R14 tires the recommended pressure is 40psi front, 48psi (!) rear.

The MXT's (are they no longer available?) are pretty quiet. But they don't do well in the mud. :)
