The high pressure fitting is not in the engine compartment on the newer vanagons. It is located under the plastic cover that hides the hoses going up to the evaporator housing. That is the panel on the left side of the luggage compartment. Pop off the little plastic screw head covers then remove the six screws to remove the cover. You will see the fitting in there.

I can only find one pressure fitting near my A/C compressor - where's the other one? The findable one is within six inches of the top of the compressor. I was considering switching to either R-134a or ES-12, but I have to find both fittings. The Bentley manual was of little help... --
