Oddly I was in the dealer today and saw the secretary retrieving the code and she told me the same thing.........I got the impression that if they knew you they could still get it for you............................

Hello - Beginning around three months ago Volkswagen now requires the VIN number as well as the numbers on a coded VW radio if you want to get the code from them. So , beware of buying a radio without a code. You won't be able to get the code and the radio will only be good for parts. Sorry Alpineimports- If you have the VIN number from the original car the radio came from I can get the code for you.
