Many moons ago, more than thirty, Road and Track had an article about a guy who converted a sunroof Beetle to run on water. There was not much to the conversion: he raised the intake and exhaust above the waterline, hung a prop to the ass end through the hand crank hole, opened the sunroof, closed the doors then drove it into the water. Once he was underway, the front wheels turned into rudimentary, but effective, rudders. The sunroof was his flying bridge. He was trying to make a point about the integrity of the Beetle's design and, I guess, turn a few heads. Richie |
